About Me

My name is Paul King and I live in Coaldale, Alberta, Canada. The reason why I started this website is because I was being frequently asked to email or write everyone back at home when I went on my exchange to Switzerland. Even though I still will email them, I hope this website will help out in the end too.

I was selected to go on Rotary exchange in Late November 2005. I was extremely excited and could not wait to start the 2 1/2 year process. After my interview and acceptance, there was a bit of paper work that I had to do that dealed with were I wanted to go and what not but nothing big happened until the Rotary Orientation weekend in Red Deer in early march of 2006. In this weekend I was able to meet all of the outbound students from my rotary district and also all the inbounds from all over the world in my district as well. It was an amazing experience to have so many nationalities in one room yet everyone understands eachother and is going through the same thing. All the outbounds were paired up with an inbound to the country that they were going. I was fortunate enough to be paired up with Fabian, a guy from Switzerland who exchanged to Fort Macleod. Talking with Fabian really gave me an insite to exactly what Swiss culture is. It was interesting to hear all of the different everyday things that a Swiss person would do when a Canadian would not.

After Red Deer, I started to begin the process of sending my garuntee forms, entry-visa, and contacting my first host family. I was fortunate enough to have my host family contact me. In my first host family, I have a host dad that works at Seimens (it is a technological company) and plays a tuba like instrument, a host mom who works in town and likes to swim, one older host brother and a younger host brother who is exchanging the same time as me to Canada. They live in a small town outside of the main center to which I will be going to school. I will be staying around Luzern Switzerland which is basically smack dap in the middle of the country.

I can't wait for this new adventure to begin! There will be something new around every corner. I wouldn't want it any other way.
